Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting
the welfare of children and young people. We expect all
staff, visitors and volunteers to share this commitment.

If you have concerns regarding the safeguarding or
welfare of any of our pupils, please contact Mrs M Scott
(Designated Safeguarding Lead), or Miss Barry or Mrs Sanderson
(Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads).

St Joseph’s participates in Operation Encompass.

PE at St Josephs

At St Joseph’s, we truly value sport and physical education, and aim for all our children to experience a range of sporting activities during their time here. Primary School years are crucial to tackling obesity and physical inactivity. Regular physical activity is proven to reduce the risk of many chronic conditions including heart disease, diabetes, cancer and obesity. Through sport, physical activity and PE we aim to enthuse, inspire and motivate all children to learn new skills whilst having lots of fun.

Currently, our children can experience:

  • Football
  • Table Tennis
  • Dance
  • Athletics
  • Cricket
  • Tag Rugby
  • Netball
  • Tri-Golf
  • Basketball

This year, we have used the ‘Sports Premium’ to add to our existing clubs. As a result, we can now offer even more to our pupils. We are also using this funding to:

  • Invest in additional specialist coaching through Accrington Stanley
  • Prove a free dance club through Total Dance on a Tuesday after school
  • Take part in the ‘Rossendale Sports Plan’ with increased competitions available
  • Improve our range of equipment, meaning more clubs and higher-quality sessions
  • Increase the number of swimming lessons with smaller class sizes, so that every child can learn to swim before they leave St Joseph’s
  • Improve teachers’ training in PE education, meaning better lessons.
