RE: We had lots of fun on our RE day doing Mustard Seed activities based on the parable of the mustard seed (Matthew 13:31-32) telling the story of a Gardener who plants some small seeds. The journey of the seed was likened to each child. They were invited to journey together as the seed is planted, takes root in the ground and grows to become a mighty tree. Once fully grown the tree battles in a storm but remains standing despite the knocks from the wind and rain. Finally the tree bears fruit in all its unique colour and beauty. We completed activities such as researching the warriors Boudicca and William Wallace, designing our own warrior shields and creating doves using origami and writing prayers on their wings to be used in an interactive performance by video with the RISE theatre which we took part in in the afternoon.

GEOGRAPHY: Using 4 and 6 figure co-ordinates to locate human and physical features on Ordnance Survey maps. WE ARE CARTOGRAPHERS: creating our own ordnance survey maps of Stacksteads using aerial photographs and OS symbols.

SCIENCE: Linking with our non-fiction literacy topic about Charles Darwin, we conducted a science experiment to understand how different bird's beaks have adapted to their needs and food over time

Forest Friday Science Observations

To link in with our Charles Darwin topic we have been Botanists! We have been making observations of plants and leaves producing detailed notes and sketches.

This topic has also included studying genes and how species, including humans, inherit variations of traits from their parents. We designed our own 'Reebobs' using the traits from their parents and creating a gene code. Using different materials we then created the 'Reebob' children.

UK Parliament Online Workshop

Green, Yellow and Turquoise class enjoyed an online workshop that taught them all about UK Parliament. They learnt how UK Parliament works, what MPs do, the role of the House of Lords and how laws are made. The children then had the opportunity to ask questions. All the children really enjoyed it and found it fascinating.
