Reading books
Please can you ensure your child has a school book bag that is brought to school daily.
Your child will receive a reading book and a reading record within the first few weeks.
Reading books will be given out every Friday.
Blue class P.E day is on Friday.
Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in their P.E Kit.

Today the children carried out a range of activities to celebrate the feast of St Joseph.

Year 1- Fruit Salad
The children looked at different fruits, describing and discussing their different features. They children carried out an observational drawing.
Design
The children had to design and plan their fruit salad.
The children had lots of fun deciding on different ingredients to add to their fruit salads.
They then had to record the equipment they would use to help make it.
Finally, the children recorded a drawing, using labels to show what they fruit salad would look like at the end.

Design
The children had to design and plan their exotic salads. The children had to decide if they were planning a coleslaw salad or potatoe salad. The children were very excited!
The children had lots of fun deciding on different ingredients for their salads. They then had to record the equipment they would use to help them create it.
Finally, the children recorded a drawing, using labels to show what their salads would look like.

We received a very important letter from Samuel Pepys asking us to create fire engines which would help stop the fire spreading across London.
Explore/ Observation
First we explored and evaluated existing products to discuss and become familiar with wheels and axles.
The children observed and tested the different vehicles to discuss their different features and develop an understanding of how they move.
Key vocabulary
The children learnt about the different features and parts to a vehicle.
Using this knowledge they then labelled a fire engine. The children discussed their different features and developed an understanding of how they work and what they do to help vehicles move.
Design
The children designed their own fire engines. We discussed what materials and resources would be used to help design a purposeful and functioning fire engine.

The children selected a wide range of materials and equipment to help create their fire engines. The children had lots of fun! The children had to test their fire engines to ensure the wheels and axles worked in order for them to move.

Our DT focus is Mechanisms- looking at pop up levers and simple card levers.
Today we have been learning about levers and hinges.
Linking to our History topic, we created The Great fire of London cards.
We had lots of fun making these.
Explore and Observation
First we explored why and how levers and hinges are used in everyday lives.
We used real life experiences to discuss how they can help.
The children discussed and shared ides of when they would use them for their cards.
We discussed ways of making the fire move on a lever, then maybe adding another lever to create Samuel Pepys boat sailing away from the fire.

Over the week we observed and kept a diary to see what changes occurred.

In Blue class we have been learning about bulbs and seeds. This week, we studied the structure of a bulb. We discussed the different features and identified how plants grow.

The children carried out a range of activities to show their understanding of The Great Fire of London.
Children had to interview each other as Samuel Pepys. They had lots of fun hot seating and asking questions.
The children had lots of fun in the construction area. They had to plan and design St. Pauls Cathedral in the character of Sir Christopher Wren.
